'StarCraft' ProLeague News: eSports League Discontinued Due To Decreasing Teams And Players?
In line with Blizzard Entertainment's "StarCraft ProLeague," the game is set to be halted, as per reports.
"StarCraft" players will have to say their farewells to the "StarCraft ProLeague." On Oct. 18, Twitter user kenzi (@kenzi131) tweeted "discontinuation of StarCraft ProLeague." This was confirmed by KeSPA's official Facebook account, which said that KeSPA had announced that it would be discontinuing "StarCraft ProLeague" starting Oct. 18.
According to KeSPA's post, the main reason behind the halt of the so called eSports (professional video gaming) league is the decline in the number of "ProLeague" teams and players, in addition to a challenge when it comes to securing league sponsors. Also, the game is plagued by match fixing issues, which has added to difficulties in maintaining the game.
In this regard, KeSPA made the announcement to halt "ProLeague's" operations to five out of seven "StarCraft" professional teams that joined this year's "ProLeague." It began way back in 2003 as the globe's first team-based eSports league and the game serves as the world's longest-running eSports league this year.
Furthermore, KeSPA admitted in the post that the choice to put the past 14 years behind it and discontinue "ProLeague" had been a difficult one and it extremely saddened them to also bring people the news that KeSPA would be stopping its control of "ProLogue" teams.
Despite what happened, KeSPA assured followers that "StarCraft" would continue to position itself as a globally competitive eSport, as it serves as one of the world's best RTS games and it is seen as an "immersive" and "exciting" eSport to watch and play.
Developed by Blizzard, "StarCraft" was initially released in 1998.
