'Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ Cast Rumors: ‘The Raid’ Actor Iko Uwais to Showcase Martial Arts in Film?

There are rumors making the rounds that martial artist Iko Uwais, who kicked and sliced his way through Gareth Evans' Indonesian action hits 'The Raid' and its sequel 'The Raid 2', would be seen in 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' along with other 'Raid 2' actors Yayan Ruhian and Cecep Arif Rahman.

While the principal photography has long been completed, secrets and spoilers keep tumbling out the 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' director, J.J. Abrams.

'The Force Awakens' is scheduled for a December 18, 2015 opening and the three Raid members would team up with confirmed cast members John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Domhnall Gleeson, Lupita Nyong'o, Gwendoline Christie, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, and Harrison Ford.

Stepping back, it can be recalled that Uwais had come to the international action scene in 2011's 'The Raid' in the role of a Jakarta cop who fights his way out of a tenement filled with knife and gun-wielding thugs using the bone-crunching martial art of pencak silat. The way in which he portrayed the role impressed Evans and he brought him back for 'The Raid 2' in a totally different character.

Silat fighter Rahman made his mark as a baddie who matches Uwais' Rama blow for blow in the sequel's brutal kitchen showdown. The 'Raid' films of Gareth Evans have explored new action talent. Incidentally, Uwais has his eyes on a crossover action career a la Jackie Chan and Jet Li, who came to the limelight first in Hong Kong before becoming international stars.
