'Star Wars Rebels' Season 3 News & Update, Spoilers: Grand Admiral Thrawn is the New Villain

"Star Wars Rebels" season 3 is set to arrive this September and its trailer promises an eventful season with exciting spins and news characters, including the return of a new villain.

Season 3 will see the comeback of a stronger Ezra, now with more enhanced skills. The trailer reveals that he has gathered resources and built his own army to take down the Empire.

In the trailer, the insurgents are shown making advances to the Empire to overthrow it. Later on, the Grand Admiral Thrawn is shown stepping in, astounding Ezra and his army.

The new season will follow Grand Admiral Thrawn as he boasts of his new strategies against Ezra, rattling the rebels and possibly beating them by getting to know their past and personal lives.

Reports about season 3 claim that Grand Admiral Thrawn will be the major villain, so Darth Vader will not cause any tremendous impact on its story.

Aside from Thrawn being the cold hearted new villain, season 3 also teases the arrival of a new character, The Bendu. The Bendu is not a tangible being but a force that embodies the center of the Force in the galaxy. The new character will reportedly make his debut in the premiere episode titled "Steps into Shadow of Star Wars Rebels Season 3" and will be voiced by "Doctor Who's" Tom Baker.

There are also speculations that while the new season will introduce The Bendu, it will see the demise of Maul. Rumors have it that his death was initially planned in season 2.

"Star Wars Rebels" season 3 premieres on Sept. 24, 8:30 p.m. on Disney XD.
