'Star Wars Rebels' Season 3 News, Release Date: X-Wings Won't Appear Early On In The Next Series

One of the things that fans of the "Star Wars" franchise wants to know about the upcoming installment is if they'll finally get to see some X-Wings in "Star Wars Rebels" after the jump. At the San Diego Comic-Con 2016, "Star Wars Rebels" creator/ showrunner Dave Filono talked about the future of the Disney XD animated series.

What we know so far about it is that it follows the Rebellion in the five years prior to "Star Wars: A New Hope." However, it remains to be seen if an X-Wing will actually appear on screen.

By now, we are somewhere between two and three years away from "A New Hope" on the timeline, which means that viewers have yet to see a squadron of X-Wing fighters in the Rebellion. Since the last season offered viewers the history of the B-Wing and the upcoming season is set to feature Y-Wings, fans are now wondering when the Rebellion will get their hands on X-Wing fighters.

According to Filono, viewers will not get to see X-Wings at least early on in the upcoming show.

"Everybody wants X-Wings, you know. It's a tricky thing in Star Wars because now we have so many things going on across so many platforms. That, you know, when you're creating a show and you're able to create, you know, stories in Star Wars, I try to see well how can we make this different? So one of the choices that we made early on was that we weren't gonna have X-Wings at least early on in the show," he said.

The series creator further revealed that he wanted to stay away from a lot of the original trilogy.

"We're a different cell," he added.

Despite his revelation, it doesn't mean that fans will never appear on screen ever. In fact, Filoni has already discussed with Lucas Film story group head Kiri Hart how the X-Wings will be introduced in the series. It is just a matter of when they will appear.

"Star Wars Rebels" season 3 is set to premiere in fall of 2016.
