‘Star Wars’ New Movie Rumors: Actress Felicity Jones Cast as Female Lead in Spin-Off Film?

There have been rumors about the casting for a standalone 'Star Wars' film, and it has recently been revealed that actress Felicity Jones is the first contender for the role.

For those that may not know, Jones is currently nominated for best actress from her role in the Stephen Hawking's biopic, 'Theory of Everything'.

"She was also featured in a recent Sundance film, 'True Story', in which she stars with James Franco and Jonah Hill, just premiered at Sundance, and she is also shooting A Monster Calls, a family fantasy directed by J.A. Bayona that also stars Liam Neeson and Toby Kebbell," writes Hollywood Reporter.

Along with Jones, there was talks of Tatiana Maslany from BBC's 'Orphan Black' auditioning for the role, and Rooney Mara.

"The secrecy surrounding the project is thicker than the mists of Dagobah, and it is even unclear which character the stand-alone is focusing on. Sources say that Aaron Paul and Edgar Ramirez are on the interest list for the male lead," writes Hollywood Reporter.

What fans do know is that the project is being directed by Gareth Edwards and written by Chris Weitz.

On that note, the film is expected for release in Dec. 16, 2016.
