'Star Wars' New Digital Collection News: All Franchise Films, Plus Deleted Scenes, & Interviews Now Available
It has been announced that all the "Star Wars" movies will be made available on digital platforms. This comes after long negotiations with Disney, who acquired George Lucas' production company in 2012 for $4 billion dollars.
Disney was able to make a deal with 20th Century Fox, which had released the six original "Star Wars" movies. Fox has decided to bring the classic franchise to online retailers including Amazon, Google Play and iTunes.
The complete series, as well as extra bonuses will be made available to fans on Digital HD starting Friday, April 10th. The next "Star Wars" movie, which is directed by J.J. Abrams will be released on December 18th, 2013.
According to Aceshowbiz, Disney Studios' chief Alan Bergman released the following statement: "Since the debut of the first film nearly 40 years ago, Star Wars has become a worldwide phenomenon with legions of fans from every generation. It's only fitting that audiences enjoy this legendary saga and its many fascinating behind-the-scenes stories on a wide variety of platforms and we're very excited to finally bring all six films to digital HD for the first time."
Lucasfilms' president, Kathleen Kennedy, has stated that the original Star Wars films were known for breaking new ground in technology, design, sound and visual effects, and that Lucasfilms is thrilled that fans will now be able to enjoy the saga wherever they go.
The behind the scenes bonus material will discuss the history of the series as well as interviews with the artists who worked on the film and helped George Lucas to being his ideas to life.
