'Star Wars' Han Solo Spinoff News: Christopher Miller and Phil Lord to Direct A New 'Star Wars' Feature Film

Christopher Miller and his partner, Phil Lord, who are the duo responsible for The Lego Movie and the popular Jump Street franchise, are taking on one of the projects in the Star Wars anthology as their next directing feat, according to reports made to The Hollywood Reporter.

The team, who write, direct and produce films are stepping up to direct a movie that will center on the young life of Han Solo, according to sources.

Lawrence Kasdan and Jon Kasdan are writing the script for the film, which has been set to release on May 25th, 2018.

The new film is not the same as the one that was supposed to be directed by Josh Trank.

Apparently, Trank left the project in May in the midst of several issues coming from his Fantastic Four filming.

That film that he was supposed to direct, which has been rumored to be an origin story of the life of Boba Fett, the intergalactic bounty hunter, is still looking for someone to direct it. Disney and Lucasfilm had no comment on these speculations.

It is not clear how their commitment to the origin story of Han Solo will work with Lord and Miller's schedule. The pair rose to high demand after their work with 21 Jump Street, and 2014's The Lego Movie.

They were slated to develop a Flash feature film for Warner Bros, but that may be off the table, as well as a third Jump Street film.

The pair was also involved in developing an animated Spider Man project for Sony, writing a treatment and producing, but this project will likely not be impacted much.
