'Star Wars Episode VIII: Rogue One' Release Date, News: Next Franchise Installment Gets Official Premiere Date
Episode VIII of the Star Wars franchise, has been titled "Rogue One,' and is all set to release on May, 26, 2017.
This movie comes a year after the release of the stand alone movie "The Force Awakens,' which will releasing on December, 18, this year. Gareth Edwards will direct the movie, with Chris Weitz will be handling the rewrite of Gary Whitta's original script, according to Deadline.
The Episode VII, which is due to release this December, will feature the main cast members featured in the movies so far, Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher. Among other cast members are Lupita Nyong'o and Adam Drive. On that note, the movie will be directed by J.J. Abrams.
Announing the release of the release of the movie, the official Twitter account of Star Wars tweeted, saying, "Announcing official details surrounding Rogue One, the first stand-alone #StarWars film, as well as Episode VIII!"
Although there hasn't been any official confirmation about the plot by Disney, there are several reports speculating the plot of the movie. Reports suggest that the movie could have an expanded Star Wars universe.
The movie is said to revolve around a young Han Solo, along with a group of bounty hunters plotting to steal plans to the Death Star. It has come to light that Felicity Jones will be one of the lead roles, but it has not been decided if she will be playing the role of Princess Leia, says The Guardian.
Last but not least, Disney has announced that it will explore characters and events beyond the core Star Wars saga.
