'Star Wars: Episode 8' Spoilers & News: 'Star Wars' Actor Adam Driver Compares 'Episode VII' Script To 'Empire Strikes Back'

"Star Wars" actor Adam Driver has shared some of his insights about the script of the upcoming "Star Wars Episode VIII" film.

Adam Driver portrayed Kylo Ren in "The Force Awakens" and is set to reprise his role in "Episode VIII," which is set for release in 2017.

The actor compared the script of the upcoming film to that of "The Empire Strikes Back." While Driver did not reveal anything specific about "Episode VIII," the actor teased that the film will be totally different from "The Force Awakens," the way "The Empire Strikes Back" was different from "A New Hope."

Asked to describe the script of the upcoming film, the actor said, "It's great."

"It's similar to how 'The Empire Strikes Back' has a different tone. For that people always go, 'Oooh, it's dark.' But I don't know that it necessarily is. It's just different in tone in a way that I think is great and necessary but also very clear," he said.

Driver also said that Director Rian Johnson trusts that his audience is ready for some nuance and ambiguity in the story.

"He's not dumbing anything down for someone and that's really fun to play," he explained.

The upcoming film is expected to be darker than "The Force Awakens." According to Driver, no one's relaxing on the set during the filming so they had to redouble their efforts in every scene.

At the Star Wars Celebration Europe, Johnson revealed that "Episode VIII" wrapped up shooting in July.

The film hits theaters on December 15, 2017.
