'Star Wars: Episode 8' Release Date, News: J.J. Abrams Passes Director's Role To Rian Johson ?

"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" recently had a huge $238 million opening weekend. And while "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" is geared up for its screening next year, fans can't help themselves from getting the newest updates for episode VIII of the saga.

Star Wars Episode VIII, which doesn't have an official title yet, is currently in the works. J.J. Abrams has passed on the directorial role to Rian Johnson, the person also responsible for the 2012 sci-fi film, "Looper."

According to Yahoo!, Abrams will be one of the producers, while Johnson, aside from being the director, will also be the writer of the 8th Star Wars installment. Johnson asked a couple of things from Abrams to help him tie the 7th and 8th episodes together.

It was also reported that Johnson is already done with the story but as long as the process of production is on going, there will always be revisions in the story. Daisy Ridley, who played "Rey" in "The Force Awakens"has already read the story that Johnson had written. The 23-year-old actress told Variety that the script for "Episode VIII"is "very good."

The site, Den of Geek, posted the schedules for the upcoming Star Wars films. Note that some of these movies are still under negotiations and are still tentative.
