'Star Wars' Cast News: Chewbacca Actor Peter Mayhew Hospitalized With Pneumonia

Peter Mayhew, the actor who plays the lovable Chewbacca in hit 'Star Wars' film franchise, has been recently hospitalized after suffering a bout of pneumonia.

Concerned fans have been posting on Reddit, regarding the actor's hospitalization and his sudden disappearance from the social media forum.

Fans need not to worry though, as Mayhew, 70, is expected to make a full recovery according to a post by his wife, Angie, on Reddit. "Peter is indeed in the hospital with pneumonia. He will make a full recovery, and hope to be discharged within a few days. Doctors are incredibly happy with his improvements," she wrote.

She also apologizes for their sudden disappearance, writing "Sorry for the absence, we left our tablets at home, so we have been unable to post to Reddit for a bit. I'll make sure he [Peter] pops in later in the day."

The news of Mayhew's fast recovery has also been confirmed by the guy who is in charge of Mayhew's website by posting an update on the actor's Twitter account last Monday, according to a report by Hollywood Reporter.

According to the tweet, "Hey all, @Webmaster_Rick here. Peter is recovering well from his bout of pneumonia. He thanks you for the well wishes!!!"

Mayhew was reported to cancel an appearance at a comic book store in Texas last Saturday when he was set to promote Star Wars #1 by Marvel, along with former Star Wars colleagues Mike Quinn and Margo Apostolos. Quinn played Nien Nunb in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi while Apostolos played an Ewok.

Fans are now calm now that the actor's health is slowly stabilizing. Mayhew is also set to play Han Solo's sidekick once again in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, debuting in cinemas on the latter part of the year.
