Sony has announced that "Star Wars: Battlefront" is set to hit the PlayStation VR, along with over 30 million sales of its PlayStation 4.

On Mar. 16, PlayStation tweeted on its official account that the "Star Wars: Battlefront" experience was coming exclusively to PlayStation VR. Sony unveiled the news at their PlayStation VR press and no additional details with regard the game were given.

Sony also revealed during the event that 36 million units of its PlayStation 4 have been sold, with is a 4.4 million increase from its 35.9 million sales at the start of 2016, according to PlayStation Lifestyle.

As per the publication, the company also mentioned that more than 230 of its developers were working on the PlayStation VR and the owners of the aforementioned tech will be able to gain access to "The Playroom VR," which is a cinematic mode that enables players to play games or watch films on a virtual big screen. It also features a new media viewer app that supports VR images and videos.

According to Sony, "The PlayStation VR" is set to be accessible to users as a free download from PlayStation Store. It will include six game titles that can be played and enjoyed by groups of friends and families. For the company, the new tech provides an "impactful experience" when shared with others.

For the time being, Gareth Edwards' upcoming film "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" is next in line to hit theaters this year. As a spin-off film, it centers on rebels who seet out on a mission to steal the plans for the Death Star. The film stars Felicity Jones in a lead role, along with Alan Tudyk, Mads Mikkelsen, Donnie Yen, Ben Mendelsohn, Forest Whitaker, Diego Luna, Riz Ahmed, and Jonathan Aris, among others.

Edwards' "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" is set to premiere in tehaters on Dec. 16. It is followed by Rian Johnson's "Star Wars: Episode VIII" and Colin Trevorrow's "Star Wars: Episode IX," which are set to hit theaters in the United States on Dec. 15, 2017 and May 24, 2019, respectively.

Meanwhile, the exact release of "Star Wars: Battlefront" to the PlayStation VR is yet to be revealed. PlayStation VR is set to be released in October at $399 USD.
