'Star Wars: Battlefront' News: LucasFilm, Electronic Arts Call An End To Fan-Made ‘Galaxy In Turmoil’
Many games receive fan-made modifications, a.k.a. mods, for entertainment purposes; however, Electronic Arts (EA) and Lucas Film has reportedly blocked a fan-made successor for "Star Wars: Battlefront."
A fan created a revival of Free Radical's "Star Wars: Battlefront 3," which was canceled by the studio, PC Gamer reports. As per the publication, Valve had given FPS Frontwire Studios, the creator of the unofficial "Star Wars: Galaxy in Turmoil," permisson to share it for free on Steam in June.
Following Valve's permission, Frontwire president Tony Romanelli revealed that LucasFilm requested them to stop the game's development as soon as possible.
In a statement, as cited by Frontwire Studios' official website, Romanelli explained that he had sat down with a number of LucasFilm heads. He said that he had been told that LucasFilm had already spoken with EA about "Galaxy in Turmoil" and they had expressed no desire in letting the project continue.
According to Romanelli, EA was concerned on the possibility of "Galaxy in Turmoil" taking away interest from fans and players in the "Battlefront" franchise. Frontwire's head suggested to put their title behind EA's paywall; however, the latter studio had previously rejected such a proposition.
"Star Wars: Battlefront" is LucasFilm and EA's first- and third-person shooting video game based on the "Star Wars" films. Set in the galaxy, players assume the role of solders from either of the two opposing armies during various timelines in the "Star Wars" realm.
"Star Wars : Battlefront" was initially released in 2004 and the most recent title was released in 2015.
