‘Star Wars: Battlefront 3’ News: Fan-Made 'Galaxy In Turmoil' Releasing On Steam?
The Internet is abuzz with the news about Frontwire Studios releasing "Star Wars: Battlefront 3" on steam, amid the release of the fan remake based on the "Galaxy in Turmoil" project.
There's no release date yet on the "Star Wars: Battlefront 3" fan remake, but it's expected that the beta version will drop in six to nine months' time.
Frontwire president Tony Romanelli posted a news update on "Star Wars: Battlefront 3" on their own website as he said that Steam already agreed to distribute the fan remake of "Galaxy in Turmoil" on its channel.
Romanelli said that the agreement holds much more significance because it could usher Frontwire into publishing its game on Steam in the future.
But PC Gamer said that it's not going to be that easy since Disney could still scuttle the plans of Frontwire to publish "Star Wars: Battlefront 3," particularly the Fan Remake of "Galaxy in Turmoil," on Steam.
Even Romanelli shared this "mild concern," although he's optimistic that with Valve agreeing to distribute the game.
"The team has reached out to Disney's licensing department twice, but has not received a response," PC Gamer said.
In an interview with Polygon, the Frontwire exec said that they consulted with some lawyers over possible copyright infringement about releasing "Star Wars: Battlefront 3" on Steam, and has been advised that they could potentially avert a cease and desist order from Disney due to two things:
First, is that they are going to release on steam the fan remake of "Galaxy in Turmoil," which means not using "Star Wars" in the title. And second, they are releasing the title for free.
Still, he advised fans against keeping their hopes up because they could receive news anytime that "Star Wars: Battlefront 3" remake, "Galaxy in Turmoil," has been cancelled if Disney decides to stomp on the project.
