'Star Trek' Sequel News: Justin Lin Shares Details on Upcoming Film

The release of the newest Star Trek movie is nearly a year away, set to be in theaters sometime in July 2016.

So far, the producers of the film have not said much about the plot, casting, or anything else having to do with the third installment of the science fiction film franchise.

However, Justin Lin, the director of the film, has revealed some details of the film by way of social media.

He has shared with fans the title of the film, as well as the first image from it. Star Trek Beyond has been confirmed as the title of the third film.

Although there is not a lot that can be gathered from this detail, it will likely cause the imaginative minds of fans of the franchise to come up with some truly interesting speculations about the upcoming film.

The picture only shows a shoulder patch with the Star Trek symbol, and the words "Starfleet United Federation of Planets".

Lin posted the picture to his Twitter account, captioning it, "Let the next Starfleet voyage begin! #StarTrekBeyond #LLAP".

The Star Trek movies have become something of a global phenomenon, grossing more than 840 million dollars across the globe.

Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, and Zoe Saldana will be returning to reprise their roles for the third film, as Enterprise crew members.

There have been rumors that Idris Elba will be playing the villain in this movie, although these rumors have not been confirmed as the only information about the movie from producers is in the single tweet shared by Lin.
