‘Star Trek: Alien Domain’ PC Closed Beta Release Date: GameSamba Launches New Franchise Based Video Game
Following the latest trend of making video games with an outer space setting, the 'Star Trek' universe is once again venturing into the medium with the launch of 'Star Trek: Alien Domain' this week.
On Wednesday, game developer GameSamba announced that it will be launching 'Star Trek: Alien Domain' as a beta version at 6 pm PST on December 1. The game is said to be a free-to-play online strategy game.
In the game, the players will try to navigate out of Fluidic Space, a mysterious extradimensional realm, while taking on the role of either a Klingon captain or a Starfleet commander.
The realm is void of planets and stars, and is nothing but a plane of existence containing a mysterious fluid, which is the home of Species 8472.
The newest 'Star Trek' game follows the events of 'Star Trek: Voyager', where in players have the ability to command a fleet of starship, while fighting off enemy forces and establishing a colony.
Players can engage in "large scale squad vs. squad battles" in the game, since it is a massive multiplayer online video game.
When video gaming began, outer space was one of the most often used settings for the medium because of the limitless possibilities of what could be done in a vast space.
In 1962, Steve Russell created 'Spacewar!' and is now considered as the first video game ever to be to have an outer space setting and in 1978, the game 'Space Invaders' came out, and not only revived the video game industry, but also served as the inspiration for Shigeru Miyamoto and Hideo Kojima to start creating their own video game empires.
However, last year, 'Star Trek: The Game' was released in conjunction with the release of J.J. Abram's 'Star Trek' movie, unfortunately, the game received poor reviews and even had a negative effect on the film.
However, it remains to be seen if GameSamba can improve with its version, 'Star Trek: Alien Domain', and whether it will defeat the other previous Star Trek game.
