‘Star Trek 3 New Cast News, Rumors: Sofia Boutella Joins ‘Star Trek’ Film Franchise, Idris Elba to Play Main Villain?
While it is still uncertain which character Sofia Boutella will be portraying in the upcoming 'Star Trek 3' movie, there is no doubt that both Justin Lin and Paramount took notice of her outstanding performance in 'Kingsman: Secret Service', wherein she played the character Gazelle.
According to Latin Post, a French-Algerian dancer and actress, Boutella is well known for her work in music videos and Nike advertisements. In addition, she has also done the voice for 'Azur & Asmar: The Prince."
As of now, there is very little information regarding the film, which is still in pre-production stage. According to latest reports, Simon Pegg and Doug Jung are currently writing the script of the movie and, hence, the chances of more characters being included cannot be ruled out.
Earlier it has been reported that Lin will be directing the movie since J.J. Abrams was occupied with his work of 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens,' and now that the movie is complete, he will possibly be devoting his time for the eighth installment of the Star Wars series.
The report says that 'Star Trek 3' will directly follow the second installment of the franchise titled 'Star Trek Indo Darkness.' The upcoming movie will star Chris Pine, Zoe Saldana, Anto Yelcin, John Cho, Zachary Quinto, and Pegg. While there are rumors that Idris Elba will portray the main antagonist in the movie, there is no confirmation in this regard yet.
It is worth mentioning here that the Star Trek franchise was rebooted in 2009 with the movie 'Star Trek' and it went on to be a major success and subsequently became a big hit at the box office. The movie also won an Academy Award for Best Makeup and earned a number of other awards, including a nomination from the Producers Guild of America.
The next installment 'Into Darkness' was released in 2012 and it was also a critical hit, but failed to reach the box office heights of 'Star Trek.
As it stands, 'Star Trek 3' slated to hit theaters on July 8, 2016.
