'Star Trek 3' Movie Spoilers & Rumors: Upcoming Film to be Titled ‘Star Trek Beyond’?

A most recent report by Trek Movie said that the upcoming third movie in the rebooted 'Star Trek' franchise will be titled 'Star Trek Beyond.' The report further claims that the producers have registered the title with the Motion Pictures of Association of America.

On the other hand, Cinema Blend as well as Screen Rant asserts that 'Star Trek Beyond' is unlikely to be the official title of the upcoming science fiction movie. Substantiating their view, these media outlets said that the 'Star Trek' flicks, especially after J.J. Abrams and Bad Robot took over, have been rather secretive regarding details, and have sometimes even attempted to mislead fans about the films' plot and characters.

According to the report, the rumored title suggests the Abrams and Robot would like to continue the trend that all their new 'Star trek' films have utilized so far - they do not have any number or subtitle. For instance, the second installment of the new 'Star Trek' franchise was titled 'Star Trek Into Darkness,' while the first was simply titled 'Star Trek,' without any reference to the nine other films that also had the 'Star Trek' title.

The report further states that if 'Star Trek Beyond' is actually the official title of the third film of the rebooted franchise, it would also suggest some details regarding actor-screenwriter Simon Pegg plans for the upcoming film's plot and setting. In an interview with MTV, Pegg accepted that the upcoming movie will blend the contemporary style of the new films with the more idealistic side of the original TV series.

Pegg further stated that the film would take place during the space ship's five-year mission in deep space, enabling the characters to interact with locations as well as people that were not featured in the previous two films. In fact, this change of setting as well as pace also mentions about actor Idris Elba and his character in the film.

However, both Idris Elba and Simon Pegg are silent regarding the role of the former in the film. On the other hand, fans have been speculating that he would be portraying a Klingon, save a new alien race. What has, however, been confirmed is that Elba will not portray a character that has already been seen in the series or previous 'Star Trek' films.

Referring to this, Pegg told MTV, "It will be an original character, yes. This is the five-year mission now, we're out there. We don't always have to keep bumping into the same people... So we're gonna try and reflect that in the movie."
