'Spider-Man' Reboot Movie News: Five Names Narrowed Down to Direct Upcoming Solo Film
While everyone seems to be focused on the next actor set to play Spider-Man in the MCU, behind the scenes Marvel is still in deep contention to find a director for the character's solo film.
The chosen director would be tasked with introducing the character for the third time in a little over a decade. It will also be a slightly different iteration of the character, as he will be portrayed a lot younger than the previous actors.
Deadline believes they have narrowed down the names of the narrowed down favorite directors.
"After a long vetting process, Sony Pictures and Marvel are zeroed in on the favorites, St Vincent helmer Ted Melfi and Warm Bodies' Jonathan Levine. Still in contention are John Francis Daley & Jonathan M. Goldstein, the director-writers of the updated version of John Hughes' Vacation," writes Deadline.
The news site also reports Jon Watts to be a surprising inclusion. He feature debuted at Sundance with his film 'Cop Car.'
"This is all moving very quickly as the studio has narrowed the search from an initial field of a dozen directors, and the final decision comes down to producers Amy Pascal and Marvel's Kevin Feige, with Sony Pictures chief Tom Rothman squarely in the mix. Not clear is whether the filmmaker who gets the job will write the script," writes Deadline.
The current actors in contention for the coveted role right now are Asa Butterfield, Tom Holland, Matt Lintz, and Charlie Rowe.
The solo film is set to premiere on July 28, 2017, leaving the studio not too much time to settle on a director.
The character is still set to debut in 'Captain America: Civil War' before fans see him in all his glory in is own solo film.
