'Spider-Man' New Cast News: Asa Butterfield No Longer In Negotiations For Role
The most recent update in the long awaiting decision for the next actor to portray the role of Spider-Man suggest that frontrunner Asa Butterfield is no longer in contention for the part.
The British actor was previously believed to already have landed the role, however it was recently discovered that Marvel was still hosting auditions for a number of other actors that included Tom Holland, Charlie Plummer, and Matthew Lintz.
It is now believed that the decision has largely come down to both Plummer and Holland at this point in time.
"The one absent name from the list is actor Asa Butterfield, who has been rumored for to have already landed the role. Butterfield might have screwed up his deal by going on Reddit and replying to posts that were about him and the Spider-Man castings," writes Heroic Hollywood.
Spider-Man is still set to appear in the upcoming 'Captain America: Civil War' for his cameo and introduction in the MCU. It has been said that whoever the actor is to portray him will be due on set by July. This means fans can expect a clear decision on the actor very soon.
"There is a young kid [already] running around New York City in a homemade version of the Spider-Man costume in the MCU," Marvel President Kevin Feige stated. "You just don't know it yet... In Spider-Man's very specific case, where there have been two retellings of that origin in the last whatever it's been - [thirteen] years - for us we are going to take it for granted that people know that, and the specifics."
'Captain America: Civil War' is scheduled to premiere May 6, 2016, while fans can expect to see Spider-Man will appear in his own solo film on July 28, 2017.
