‘Spectre’ Movie Rumors: Mexican Government Offered $20 Million in Tax Breaks to Change James Bond Film Script?

If a recent report by TaxAnalysts is to be believed, the Mexican authorities granted tax incentive worth as much as $20 million to MGM and Sony to present the positive sides of Mexico in the upcoming James Bond movie titled 'Spectre.'

The Telegraph claims that in lieu of the concession, Mexico has insisted on changes in the movie's script as well as cast so that the country is presented in positive light in the aftermath of gross gang-and drug-based violence and corruption that has sparked international outrage.

According to the report, the list of demands by the Mexican authorities Included that a non-Mexican actor be cast to play the villain's role; the assassination target be changed from the mayor of Mexico City to any international official; and the Mexican police were replaced by a "special force." Apart from these, the Mexican officials are also reported to have "requested" that a "known Mexican actress" be casted to play the "Bond girl."

Meanwhile, Los Angeles Times reported that Mexican actress Stephanie Sigman, who starred in the hit 'Miss Bala,' was subsequently announced as "Bond girl" Estrella.

According to the original script of 'Spectre,' Mexico was to be shown only in the first few minutes of the upcoming Bond movie. On the other hand, the Mexican government expressed its willing to give Sony $14 million in return for the above mentioned changes. The government also offered an additional $6 million the producers to swap a cage fighting scene with footage of Mexico's popular 'Day of the Dead' holiday and also to highlight Mexico City's "modern" skyline.

The report published by TaxAnalyst further said that the former Chairman of Sony Pictures Entertainment Amy Pascal had advised the filmmakers to "add whatever travelogue footage we need in Mexico to get the extra money."

Taxanalysts also stated that information regarding the report about 'Spectre,' which is slated for release later this year, was obtained from leaked documents at Sony that were hacked.
