'Southside With You' Movie Release Date 2015: President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle's Love Story
The love story of United States President Barack Obama with his First Lady, Michelle Obama, is about to be immortalized on the big screen by means of a movie about their first date.
The movie, which will be called 'Southside With You', will be an independent feature film which will recount Barack and Michelle Obama's first date and first kiss in 1989.
While the actress playing Michelle has already been filled by Tika Sumpter, best known for her role in 'Gossip Girl', the actor who will play the president has yet to be cast.
The indie film is written and will be directed by 'Worst Friend' director Richard Tanne, and will have Tracey Bing, from Warner Independent and Stephanie Allain ('Hustle & Flow') as its executive producers.
The couple first met at the Sidley & Austin law firm in Chicago where Barack was a 27-year-old summer associate while the future first lady was a 25-year-old attorney.
In the book 'Obama: From Promise to Power', the first lady told author David Mendell that she initially rebuffed Obama's advances, recounting the time they had lunch, saying, "he had this bad sport jacket and a cigarette dangling from his mouth, and I thought: 'Oh, here you go. Here's this good-looking, smooth-talking guy. I've been down this road before.'"
The first lady also said in a 2008 interview that she did not want the two of them to start dating since it would be "tacky" considering they were the only two black people in the firm.
However, because of the president's perseverance she eventually agreed to go out with him.
"On our first date, I treated her to the finest ice cream Baskin-Robbins had to offer, our dinner table doubling as the curb," Barack Obama told O Magazine in 2007, "I kissed her, and it tasted like chocolate."
'Southside With You' will start filming next year, in 2015, in the city of Chicago.
