Sophie B. Hawkins News: 'The Crossing' Singer Welcomes Baby Girl
Sophie B Hawkins, the fifty year old performer best known for her '90s hits, "As I Lay Me Down" and "Damn, I Wish I Was Your Lover", has quite a happy song to sing.
The songstress welcomed a beautiful baby girl names Esther Ballantine Hawkins on Tuesday, July 7th, according to reports from Us Weekly.
This is Hawkins' second child, as she has an older son, Dashiell, whom she gave birth to in 2008. "Dashiell and I are ecstatic to finally be with our beautiful girl," said the singer to Us. "Our family is now complete!"
Hawkins confirmed her pregnancy in February. She affectionately nicknamed her daughter "Bubble Gum", and told Us Weekly that she was not worried about expanding her family later in life.
"Being 50 is actually an amazing age to have a second child because I am more wise, calm, humorous, appreciative, simple and clear," explained the singer, who froze 15 embryos when she was 31 years old. "I'm not running around looking for love and validation. I live each day full of gratitude and that's good for my children."
Hawkins did express some worry about how her son would react to having a younger sister, but says that she is now sure that her family of three will adjust just fine.
"I'm in great health and Dashiell was a healthy pregnancy, but the risks emotionally seemed huge," said the singer. "Losing the closeness with Dash, our free and adventurous lifestyle, and the risk that he would feel betrayed by my having another child. We've come through serious trauma with depth, healing and humor and that has made our bond even stronger."
