If latest reports are to be believed, Japanese electronics giant Sony is likely to announce its upcoming flagship smartphone, Xperia Z5, soon and perhaps release the device in September with a view to give a tough competition to Apple Inc.'s iPhone 6s, Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus as well as the upcoming Samsung phablet, the Galaxy Note 5.

According to IB Times, Leaksfly (via MobiPicker) reported that the Xperia Z5 is expected to come with a 5.5-inch display, a larger screen compared to its predecessors, the Sony Xperia Z3+ and Sony Xperia Z4, which sport 5.2-inch screens. The reports further claim that the Sony Xperia Z5 will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor. Phone Arena reports that a User Agent Profile leak possibly displayed the same chipset on board last week. It is said that the S810 chipset will work alongside an octa-core CPU, while the graphics will be handled by an Adreno 430 GPU. The whole configuration of the device will be supported by a 3GB of RAM.

In terms of memory specification, the upcoming Xperia Z5 will reportedly be equipped with 32GB of internal storage. As of now, there is no information whether the device will feature a microSD card slot for external memory.

Sony smartphones have always esteemed for their superior cameras. According to reports, the Xperia Z5 will feature the standard 20.7-megapixel rear-facing camera unit alongside an 8-megapixel front-facing snapper for selfies and videos. The smartphone is also expected to come with a fingerprint scanner, similar to those found in Apple and Samsung handsets.

However, Sony is yet to confirm the specifications and features of the Xperia Z5.

According to another recent report, Sony is currently working on two new high-end Android smartphones, the Sony Xperia S60 and Sony Xperia S70, which are reported to cost about $919. The new handsets are expected to be unveiled at IFA 2015 in September.
