Sony Xperia Z4 News: Latest Handset Unveiled, Comes with Snapdragon 810 & 5.2-Inch Display
Ending the long wait, Sony Corp. of Japan unveiled its latest flagship smartphone dubbed as the 'Xperia Z4' on Monday. The company announced the unveiling of the handset on the Japanese version of its official website, highlighting the device's high-end specifications and features. Xperia Z4 is expected to be released in Japan in mid-2015.
IB Times reports that Sony has, however, not announced an international release date for the Xperia Z4. At the same time, the company said that the Xperia Z4 features a 5.2-inch full-HD display rendering a screen resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. The new handset is somewhat slimmer compared to its predecessor the Xperia Z3 and measures 6.9mm. It weighs about 144 grams and comes with a slender bezel around its screen.
Like the other handsets of Sony's Xperia-branded smartphone range, the latest device also has powerful cameras and is water-resistant and dust-resistant as well. The Xperia Z4 sports a 20.7 megapixel rear camera and a 5 megapixel front camera. In addition, the new handset has IP6X, IPX5 and IPX8 ratings, denoting that it is dustproof, splash-resistant and can even survive underwater for a long period.
The latest Xperia model is powered by a 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor and 3GB of RAM, while being equipped with a 2,930mAh battery. Running on Android 5.0 Lollipop, the new Z4 also comes with 32GB of onboard storage, along with expandable memory support of up to 128GB through microSD card.
While Sony has confirmed that the Xperia Z4 will be available in four colors - white, black, copper and aqua green, the company has not revealed the price of the new phone yet.
Reuters quoted Sony Mobile Communications, president and CEO Hiroki Totoki as saying, "There's a broad variety in the prices of smartphones, from around $100 to $1,400 at the upper end." He added, "We want to focus in the upper half of that."
