Sony Xperia News: Japanese Brand Refutes Reports about Stepping Out of Mobile Phone Business

Sony has denied that it is en route to stepping out of the mobile phone business in the near future. Recently, speaking for the Japanese company, Sony Global CEO Kazuo Hira said, "No chance," reports Tech Radar. Contrary to the recent news that the company is planning to leave the mobile business, Sony appears to be all the more serious than ever before.

From what it appears, there is some change in the approach from those at the helm of the company's affairs. According to the report, people at the top hierarchy of Sony are now willing to manufacture mobile devices for masses, especially in the mid-range segment. This intention of the company became clearer; when Japanese brand decided to miss out MWC 2015 and not use the trade show in Barcelona, Spain, unveil its latest Xperia flagship device.

On the contrary, Sony's rivals Samsung and HTC not only participated in the MWC, but also introduced their flagship devices prominently.

The new-found thought of catering to mid-range products such as the Xperia M4 Aqua, recently announced recently, indicates that the company is seeking to redeem as well as establish itself in an extremely crowded field.

In his statement, Hira said, "The smartphone market, of course, is highly cost-competitive, and we expect the commoditization we are seeing to continue. So we have to make changes to how we manage the business as well."

In fact, this has also happened with HTC recently as the Taiwanese company has chosen to cater to a safer-but-competitive price segment with products like Desire 616 and Desire 526G+. Actually, this approach seems to be best for companies like Sony and HTC provided they are keen to survive in high-volume space midst other brands like Xiaomi, Motorola and Asus as well as many others.
