Sony PlayStation 4.5 Release Date News, Specs, Rumors: New Modes Revealed; Console Receives Q4 2016 Release?
In line with Sony's PlayStation 4.5, new details about its specifications have been revealed and it is rumored to be announced before the fourth-quarter of the year.
The upcoming PlayStation 4.5, also known as NEO, is viewed as a PlayStation 4 on steroids, according to Neowin. It is known that the specifications of the original PlayStation 4 include 8 Jaguar Cores at 1.6 GHz, AMD GCN 18 CUs at 800 MHz, and 8 GB GDDR5 176 GB/s.
As per the publication, NEO is set to feature a CPU of 8 Jaguar Cores at 2.1 GHz, an enhanced AMD GCN 36 CUs at 911 MH, and 8 GB GDDR5 218 GB/s. The aforementioned specifications indicate that the PlayStation 5 predecessor is set to run at a higher speed, double the amount of its compute units, and gain an improved bandwidth.
Aside from the specifications, the PlayStation 4.5 is also set to feature two modes - the base mode and the NEO mode. According to the publication, the base mode operates on the PlayStation 4 while the NEO mode is set to exploit the stronger hardware of the forthcoming gaming console.
According to Eurogamer, a second source with regard the specifications sheet is yet to surface; thus, fans and gamers have to wait. As per the publication, developers are working on the first stage development kits for the time being and the second generation kits are set to roll out in June this year. Furthermore, it is revealed that code specifications for the Neo spec software will be entertained in August this year.
As per Wall Street Journal, Sony may announce the release of the PlayStation 4.5 prior to the release of the PlayStation VR in October this year. Thus, it can be assumed that the closest possible release date for the console is in the fourth quarter of the year.
