Sony Confirms Launch of New 1TB PS4 'Ultimate Player Edition' in Europe & Asia in July [VIDEO]
Sony has just confirmed that it will launch its 1TB PlayStation 4 "Ultimate Player Edition" in Europe, Asia and South America on July 15. The new console will be released in North America soon after.
A report in Christian Today states that Sony's announcement was anticipated, since its rival Microsoft introduced its 1TB Xbox One at the 2015 Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) last week.
Sony issued a statement on the company's European blog stating that the new 1TB PS4 will enable players to download more favorite games onto their PS4. At the same time, the company announced that the new console will "extend your play with greater add-on content and save and share even more of your best gaming highlights."
However, Sony has not made any official announcement regarding the precise release date of the device in the U.S., Engadget claimed that an FCC filing revealed it is coming.
In addition to launching the 1TB PS4 "Ultimate Player Edition," the Japanese electronic entertainment giant is also revamping its 500GB model. Now, the device has a matte finish and is nearly 10 percent lighter and eight percent more power efficient compared to the previous model. The 500GB model is available in two color options - Glacier White and Jet Black. Sony plans to release the overhauled 500GB model in Japan later this month. The revamped device will be launched in other parts of the world later this year.
Sony took to the Twitter on Monday to announce an update to its PlayStation app for both iOS as well as Android. This update will allow the players to redeem PSN gift cards as well as promotional codes even without switching on their console.
