'Sonic Mania' News & Update: Sonic Explores Two In-Game Stages In The Latest Gameplay Trailer [WATCH]

In line with Sega's "Sonic Mania," the studio has released the game's gameplay video.

The studio released the gameplay video at PAX West 2016. It opens with the fhe map Green Hill Zone 1, which can be described as a land area with green grass, tall trees, and large flowers. Sonic is able to roll and move up and obtain coins and powers. Just like its predecessors and other games, the region also features sloped areas and villains along the way.

The trailer also features some areas with tunnels, which require Sonic to roll through. Some sequences also show Sonic jumping without immediately seeing his landing, along with some spikes along the way. Falling into the sharps will result to the reset of the number of rings. Players will also encounter a metalloid villain in "Sonic Mania." In order to defeat him, Sonic has to roll, attack, and avoid being it.

The Studiopolis has the same layout with Green Hill, except that it is modern in appearance. This is evidenced by man-made elements, such as buildings, floating bars, and machine-guided transport. It also features SegaSonic Popcorn Shop, which helps Sonic reach another point of the map.

According to IGN, "Sonic Mania" seems to be bringing up the gamestyle expected from a 2D Sonic, with the sample areas showed in the game trailer. The game is assumed as the 25th anniversary present for players, as per the publication.

"Sonic Mania" is set to be released for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Microsoft Windows in 2017.
