Snapchat Spectacles Vending Machine Launch Latest News: Making Buying A Lot Less Boring
CEO and founder Evan Spiegel scored a marketing touchdown with its Snapchat Spectacles vending machine launch. Instead of distributing the new gadget online or in brick-and-mortar retail stores, you can only buy a pair on these weird dispensers.
The first stop for the Snapchat Spectacles vending machine launch is in Venice Beach in Los Angeles, California, and all units were sold out just hours after the first purchase. Several reloads of the units via trucks were noted by witnesses, but still could not cope with the demand.
The Snapchat Spectacles allows the wearer to take 10-second videos through a wide-lens perspective, and they can sync with the smart phone so you can share the footage instantly.
Talking about the Snapchat Spectacles, Spiegel said, "It's about instant expression and who you are right now. Internet-connected photography is really a reinvention of the camera. And what it does is allow you to share your experience of the world while also seeing everyone else's experience of the world, everywhere, all the time."
In a report from TechCrunch, the timer has already started on Saturday morning on the Snapbot locator page. After the clock hits zero, it will reportedly give the next location where the vending machine will next turn up.
The Snapchat Spectacles vending machine launch was so good a strategy that it drove prices to ridiculous levels. According to Fortune, the wearables turned up on eBay as those lucky enough to snap one are selling it for as much as $1,000. That's about eight times as much as the original price of $129.
