Snapchat Spectacles Price, Specs News: Release Date Set To Be This Fall

Snapchat announced that the release date for its highly anticipated spectacles will be this fall, with a price of around $129.99 for each of the three colors of the device.

This is nothing new of course considering Google Glass' failed experiment in part because of the design, although a big chunk was about promising what it could not deliver.

For the Snapchat Spectacles, the company decided to keep it simple. The user can just record 10-seconds worth of video by tapping a button. Rinse and repeat.

While also sharing the release date, price and specs, Evan Spiegel told Wall Street Journal that the videos taken by Snapchat Spectacles are significantly different than all the camera phones in the market today.

He said that the eyeglasses' cam utilizes 115-degree-angle lens, which closely mimics the natural view of our eyes. Similarly, the clips are circular which again similar to the human vision. Then there's the fact that the whole action is hands-free.

The transfer also promises to be seamless because the video can be wirelessly transported to the phone.

It's going to be a challenge for the company to convince people into wearing the eyeglasses. More than the release, date, specs and price, people don't want to look dorky when wearing the Snapchat Spectacles.

Also, there's the privacy issue. People did not warm up to the Google Glass because they didn't know when they are being recorded. As a result, the eyeglasses were prohibited from bars, movie theaters and almost all establishments.

But TIME said that opening the API to allow third-party developers to make apps for the Snapchat Spectacles will hopefully bring more customers along.
