'Sleepy Hollow' Season 3 Renewal News: Fox Series Picked up for Third Installment
Despite its shaky second season, Fox decided to renew "Sleepy Hollow" for a third season. Since the series' showrunner Mark Goffman left the show, it was questionable as to whether the show would return or not.
Fox has now chosen "The Glades" and "White Collar" creator Clifton Campbell to join the crew as executive producer and new showrunner.
"Sleepy Hollow" started its journey with a bang with the 13 episode, first season raking in 8 to 10 million viewers an episode. However, the 18 episode second season has cut that viewership in half with each episode bringing in around 5 million viewers.
Fox TV Group Chairman Dana Walden said at TCA in January, "We want to get back to something that feels a little bit more episodic in nature, it has become overly serialized. We are trying to return the fun to it a little bit."
David Madden, who had personally asked Campbell to take over "Sleepy Hollow," said in a statement this week, "I had the pleasure of working with Clifton on both 'The Glades' and 'White Collar.' He is an excellent producer, and we can't wait to see what this team has in store for Season Three."
"Sleepy Hollow" is about the legendary Ichabod Crane, who is brought back to life and forced to live in the 21st Century while helping to unravel historical mysteries.
The show stars Tom Mison as Ichabod Crane, Nicole Beharie as Abbie Mills, Orlando Jones as Captain Frank Irving, Lyndie Greenwood as Jenny Mills, John Noble as Henry Parrish and Katia Winter as Katrina Crane.
An official release date for season three of "Sleepy Hollow" will be determined in the near future. For now, the cast and crew will focus on recreating and revisiting the show's original material to bring the ratings back up.
