Nikki Reed, who portrayed Rosalie Hale in the 'Twilight' saga, is now set to portray another role as a historical character. The 27-year-old actress has joined the cast of 'Sleepy Hollow' Season 3. The Hollywood Reporter states that she will be portraying the character of Betsy Ross in the upcoming season of the series on Fox television.

'Sleepy Hollow' is considered to be a "modern-day adaptation" of the 1820 Halloween short story "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" by Washington Irving.

According to Christian Today, Betsy Ross is the celebrated seamstress known as well as loved for sewing the nation's first flag by day, but by night, the character is an active colonial insider - a secret operative in George Washington's mysterious ring of spies. In the show, the character of Ross has been described as a seductive lady possessing an unsuspecting physical aptitude.

Talking to The Hollywood Reporter, 'Sleepy Hollow' co-creator and executive producer Len Wiseman said, "We are all very excited to welcome Nikki Reed into the world of Sleepy Hollow," adding, "Nikki's the perfect choice to bring a smart and sexy edge to our show's twisted version of American icon, Betsy Ross."

According to reports, Reed joins the cast of 'Sleepy Hollow' as a series regular along with Tom Mison, who portrays time-traveling Revolutionary War soldier Ichabod Crane, Nicole Beharie, who portrays the character of contemporary Detective Abbie Mills, as well as the remaining the cast of the series.

However, as of now, there is no information on whether Reed's character, which has already been mentioned as a former love of Mison's Crane, will join the show in the past, as part of the frequent flashbacks in the series or in the present day.

While the first two seasons of 'Sleepy Hollow' were filmed in Wilmington, North Carolina, Season 3 is moving to Atlanta, Georgia, with a view to take advantage of better filming discounts offered in the region. In addition, the move also allows Reed to remain close to her new husband, Ian Somerhalder, who plays the lead role in the The CW series, 'The Vampire Diaries,' which is also being filmed in Atlanta.

'Sleepy Hollow' Season 3 will premiere at 9:00 pm ET on Thursday, Oct. 1, on Fox.
