Singer Brandy Returns to Gospel Roots? Kirk Franklin Announces New Collaboration Record on Twitter (VIDEO)
R&B star Brandy Norwood has been making headlines for ending her engagement according to her representative, but along with the news of the break up, Grammy-Award winner Kirk Franklin took to Twitter to announce the singer is taking time to record gospel music.
The gospel music pioneer made the big reveal by posting a photo of he and Norwood with a caption that read, "Just finished an incredible night with this one! She's on ?@TheWallsGroup coming soon!"
The Walls Group is a young gospel quartet comprised of four siblings hailing out of Houston, Texas. Their single "Perfect People" has already made an impact throughout the gospel community and a collaboration with Norwood can only help launch them further.
There has been talk that the singer/actress would venture into gospel music since late last year. Norwood is the daughter of former gospel singer and choir director Willie Norwood and got her start singing in the church choir. The 35-year-old star was raised in a Christian home and has often accredited gospel technique in assisting her with her own music.
During an interview with The James Fortune Show, Norwood stated she had been seriously thinking of recording a "gospel/inspirational album." She went on said, "That would be a dream come true, because there's so many people that want to be uplifted and are craving for that soul truthful music."
Norwood explained the Gospel world has showed her "so much appreciation" throughout the years. "I would love to dibble and dabble in the word with my music, that would be awesome," she said.
Throughout her immensely successful 20 year career, Norwood has not flat out recorded many gospel tracks. She does however count gospel singers Kim Burrell, Yolanda Adams, the Clark sisters, Fred Hammond and more as her favorite artists and friends.
This upcoming venture would allow the singer to step outside of the secular music industry and return to her upbringing in gospel music.
