Sims 4 Pixel Bug Update: Pirates Remove, Fix Maxis' Anti-Piracy Efforts

EA's newest addition to the 'Sims' franchise released on September 2, and fans of the series are wondering if getting the new title is worth it. Regardless of the many legitimate reviews and ratings on the Internet, many gamers have decided to pirate the game for free and spare the risk of losing money on a game they won't play.

It seems as though this has been predicted by 'Sims' franchise developer Maxis, as they have implemented a "glitch" or "bug" in the game for players who've obtained it illegally.

Apparently, if a player does not own a legitimate copy of the game, the entire game has a pixelated overlay, similar to the censorship seen when Sims characters use the restroom.

Immediately, disgruntled gamers took to online forums complaining about the horrible 'Sims 4' bug. Unbeknownst to them, they evidently revealed that they had illegally downloaded the game; everyone who purchased it, didn't have the problem.

However, despite Maxis' attempts to restrict and discourage gamers from pirating 'Sims 4', it seems as though the "bug" has been removed from many illegal copies of the game floating around torrent sites.

These types of anti-piracy techniques are commonly implemented in games nowadays. However, many developers understand that there's practically no way to prevent the piracy of their games, barring "Online Only" gameplay.

Evidently, the 'Sims 4' pixelation bug was not intended to stop the illegal download of the game, however, their coy anti-piracy measure definitely made many pirates smile.
