Anderson Silva Positive Drug Test News: 'The Spider' Speaks Out Against Steroid Use Allegations

It didn't take long for Anderson Silva to respond after news broke that he tested positive for two anabolic steroids in an out-of-competition drug test administered three weeks before UFC 183.

While the UFC immediately released a statement regarding the matter, Silva and his camp waited a day to release a statement of their own. In a statement sent to MMAWeekly, the former UFC Middleweight champion denied any wrongdoing.

"I've been competing in this sport for a very long time. This is my nineteenth fight in the UFC. I have been thoroughly tested many times and have never had a positive drug test," said Silva who has been known to maintain a strong anti-PED stance.

"I have not taken any performance enhancing drugs. My stance on drugs is, and always will be, the same. I'm an advocate for a clean sport. I'm consulting with my advisors right now to explore all my options and intend to fight this allegation and clear my name. I will not make any further comments until my team advises me to do so," the statement read.

According to an MMAWeekly report, the former pound-for-pound best fighter on the planet has the option of requesting the B sample from his drug test to be processed. Should he ask for such, the initial A sample result, which found Silva testing positive for Drostanolone and Androstane could either be verified or put in question.

Nevada Athletic Commission executive director Bob Bennett said that as of Wednesday afternoon, Silva and his representatives have not yet made such a request, the report says.

Silva was administered the out-of-competition drug test on January 9, three weeks before UFC 183. The results of the test did not reach the Nevada Athletic Commission until February 3.

The series of events have put to question why Silva was still allowed to fight despite the positive results of the test.
