Blackphone 2 Release Date, Specs New: Silent Circle Unveils New Device at MWC 2015

Encrypted communications firm Silent Circle introduced its ultra-secured Blackphone 2 at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2015 in Barcelona, Spain, on Wednesday. The original Blackphone was ranked as one of the "25 Best Innovations of 2014" by the Time magazine last year.

Christian Today says that the specs of Blackphone 2 are superior compared to the original. The latest tablet comes with an 8-core processor and 3 GB of RAM, while the original Blackphone was powered by a quad-core and 1 GB RAM. In addition, the Blackphone 2 sports a relatively larger display. Compared to the 4.7-inch display screen of the original Blackphone, its successor boasts a 5.5-inch screen with Gorilla Glass. In addition, it is also equipped with a longer-lasting 3060 mAh battery.

As Silent Circle prides in being a leader in mobile security, Blackphone 2 sports an upgraded PrivatOS 1.1, security apps bundled into a Silent Suite, in addition to the company's proprietary secure conference call app called Silent Meeting. The latest Blackphone also boasts Spaces - a PrivatOS improvement which will allow users the choice of having several profiles, enabling them to freely control and choose the information they want to open and share.

In addition, Blackphone 2 is also bundled with a variety of services such as the Silent Store, Silent Manager, and Silent World - an encrypted call plan that enables users to call as well as connect with others sharing the same plan.

In addition to the Blackphone 2, Silent Circle utilized the opportunity to unveil the Blackphone+, which the company described as the "first secure tablet and smartphone" ever.

Referring to the company's emphasis on mobile security, Mike Janke, Silent Circle security expert, observed, "We're not interested in selfie sticks, bending phones or candy colors. We want to challenge convention and make sure devices are secure at the core."

Silent Circle has announced that the Blackphone 2 will be available in the stores in the second half of 2015.
