Showtime TV Series News: Network Announces 'Homeland' & 'The Affair' New Season Premiere Dates

Showtime has finally revealed the premiere dates for the upcoming seasons of 'Homeland' and 'The Affair.' According to the network, 'Homeland' Season 5 as well as 'The Affair' Season 2 will premiere on the same date - Sunday, Oct. 4, 2015.

According to IB Times, Emmy winning 'Homeland,' starring Claire Danes, will be aired at 9 p.m., followed by 'The Affair' at 10 p.m.

The report states that both series - which have received the Emmy awards and the Golden Globe Awards respectively - have recently witnessed a rise in viewership. The Variety reports, "According to Nielsen estimates, the regular-time slot airing of 'Homeland' averaged a season-best 1.66 million viewers. First-year drama 'The Affair' also delivered its most-watched episode of the season with 778,000 viewers at 10 p.m., up 16% from last week and 53% higher than the series premiere."

The American political thriller 'Homeland', which has received four Emmy Awards nominated this year, will return for its fifth to narrate the story of Carrie Mathison (Claire Danes) story, although the storyline is expected to be somewhat different from how the show ended in Season 4. The plot of the upcoming season of 'Homeland' will explore Carrie's self-exile in Berlin following a failed stint as CIA's station chief in Islamabad. According to Entertainment Weekly, Season 5 will also look into Carrie's estranged relationship with the CIA, and also focus on her current job as head of security for a German philanthropist.

Currently, the production of 'Homeland' Season 5 is underway, and, according to a report in Variety, it will be the first American television series to be shot entirely in Germany.

On the other hand, 'The Affair,' a televised series that entails story-telling from different view points will perhaps produce another season of manifold and layered story that is expected to keep the audience guessing. 'The Affair' Season 1 ended with the arrest of Noah Solloway (Dominic West), who is suspected of murdering his daughter's older lover.
