'Sherlock' Spoilers, News: Christmas Special Episode Set in Victorian London

More details have surfaced concerning the 'Sherlock' Christmas Special that was announced not too long ago. Beyond that, some spoilers for the upcoming special episode reveal its setting.

With this information came some leaked photos of the Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman on set wearing Victorian garb. While most speculated that this scene might be reference to a dream sequence or costume party in the upcoming special, it has been revealed that the episode will be take place in Victorian London

In a recent interview with EW, showrunner Steven Moffat confirms this and explains its place within the series. He states:

"The special is its own thing. We wouldn't have done the story we're doing, and the way we're doing it, if we didn't have this special. It's not part of the run of three episodes. So we had this to do it - as we could hardly conceal - it's Victorian. [Co-creator Mark Gatiss] and me, we wanted to do this, but it had to be a special, it had to be separate entity on its own. It's kind of in its own little bubble."

The 'Sherlock' Christmas Special doesn't have a release date yet, but is expected to drop sometime around next holiday season.
