Sherlock Season 4 Release Date: 2 Year Wait? Tom Hiddleston of Thor Joining Cast? [VIDEO]

Rumors are spreading like wildfire as to when the release date of Sherlock Season 4 will be, despite the recent release of the series' third installment on January 1, 2014. Executive Producer Steven Moffat has updated that there is no final premiere date set yet, but he has confirmed that the BBC has already approved Seasons 4 and 5 of the hit show.

Following the hugely popular Season 3, fans are eager to see what happens next, but they might have to wait another two years for Season 4 to arrive, according to reports - although that is typical of Sherlock given that previous seasons aired with huge gaps between them as well.

Martin Freeman (John Watson) said that the long wait in filming the production is due to his and Benedict Cumberbatch's (Sherlock Holmes) busy schedule.

"It's very hard to get together. But it's one of those things where you have to at some point just go, 'We're going to do it now,' otherwise we could be having this conversation in three years," Freeman told Digital Spy.

He and Cumberbatch are both into theater and he will play Richard Ill, in a portrayal of Shakespeare's play.

Meanwhile, Moffat shared his directional plots for Seasons 4 and 5, which he and writer Mark Gatiss planned on top of the production bus.

"So we have got plans -- but our plans don't tend to be 'Let's blow up the world or cast the most famous person in the world'. They tend to be 'What exciting twists and turns can we add to this?' And I think we've got some crackers! The ideas we had that day, I thought were the best we've ever had," Moffat told The Guardian.

In a recent interview in Brazil, Gatiss responded to a circulating rumor about Tom Hiddleston (Thor, 2011) joining the cast as Sherlock's third brother, Sherrinford Holmes.

"Tom would be wonderful in 'Sherlock'." But he only does movies now. What can I say? I'll ask him if you like," he said without giving any further confirmation.
