'Sherlock' News: New 'Sherlock' Special Photo Reveals Victorian Theme
On last Wednesday, fans of the popular BBC television drama, Sherlock went into a frenzy when the television network released a photograph of stars of the show, Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman wearing Victorian clothing.
The actors look like they came straight out of the 1800s and are seen lounging around a large leather armchair.
Cumberbatch, who plays the role of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's iconic detective Sherlock Holmes, and Freeman, who plays his sidekick and companion Dr. John Watson, both are donned in sophisticated three piece suits and wear serious expression.
In addition, The Hobbit star is sporting a very dramatic curly mustache.
Steven Moffat, the executive producer of the show has said that the traditional holiday episode would be a standalone set in Victorian times, which is when the books were written originally.
Sherlock premiered in the United Kingdom in 2010, and it is the modern day reimagining of Conan Doyle's classic character, who first appeared in his books in 1887.
Since then, Sherlock Holmes has been portrayed in several films and television shows, including a film series in 1931 starring Basil Rathbone, and two movies featuring Robert Downey, Jr. and Jude Law in 2009 and 2011.

Sherlock airs on the BBC in the United Kingdom and on PBS Masterpiece in the United States.
BBC One tweeted the photograph of the actors on July 8th with the caption, "Shut up everybody, shut up! Don't move, don't speak, don't breathe. A new #Sherlock Special image has landed..."
