'Shenmue' Remakes News & Rumors: Sega Head Bringing Back ‘Shenmue 1,’ ‘Shenmue 2’

Sega has talked about the possibilities of resurfacing "Shenmue" in the present gaming realm.

In his interview with MCV, European head Jurgen Post said that there was definitely a desire to go back to their classic games. He also mentioned that even online, people were constantly talking about products they would like to see come back, adding that "Shenmue 1" and "Shenmue 2" were probably in the top two places.

According to Post, they were looking into it and it was an old and beloved IP. He also explained that just by consumers, but also within the studio, they had people asking if they could do both games all over again. With that, he said they would definitely go for it.

Post revealed the problem why the games have not had gotten their remakes to date. In the same interview, he said that the issue was that it was a big game and it was a project from many years ago. He added that if they were to do it, they would want to do a fantastic conversion to the current platforms and negotiate contracts, as there were a lot of licenses in the games, which had been cleared several years ago.

"We are looking into it. We haven't given it a green light, but it has our full attention," Post said.

The game centers on teenage martial artist Ryo Hazuki as he explores 1980 Japan and China while looking for his father's killer.

As per Eurogamer, "Shenmue 3" is in development under Sega's series creator Yu Suzuki's Ys net Studio and Shibuya Productions. The game is set to be released for Microsoft Windows and PlayStation 4 in late 2017.

For the time being, Sega is yet to announce further information on the "Shenmue 1" and "Shenmue 2" remakes.
