'Shazam!' Release Date News, Rumors: Dwayne Johnson Says Film Might Premiere Earlier than Expected

DC fans were elated when the news of a 'Shazam!' film in the works, but were quickly let down a bit when it was found out it wouldn't be released until 2019.

Fans were even more excited when Dwayne Johnson got attached to the role of Black Adam, and it would appear that the actor has brought us news about the movie's arrival.

Johnson was approached on the red carpet by MTV, and here is what he had to say about the release date:

"It may happen a little earlier than what has been predicted. The script is coming in, it's great, the support from the studio has been great. It's just a great opportunity, especially with Black Adam where you can take a guy who starts off as a bad guy, turns into an anti-hero, we can make him vicious, a little bit of winking charm."

It hasn't yet been confirmed on who will be playing the title character yet, but the movie will be based on the comic book origin of Billy Batson who transforms into a superhero when he chants the words "Shazam!"

Despite the movie's distant release date, this doesn't mean we can't see the character, or Dwayne Johnson's character for that matter, appear in any other earlier released DC films, as it has been confirmed 'Shazam!' will share the universe.
