'Sharknado 4: The Fourth Awakens' News, Release Date: Star Wars-Inspired Film Set To Premiere on July 31

Disaster horror film series "Sharknado" is back with its fourth installment titled "Sharknado: The 4th Awakens" on July 31.

Starring Ian Ziering and Tara Reid, the upcoming installment will be set five years following the events in "Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No."

In a statement, the showrunners of the Syfy film series said: "'Sharknado 4' will take place five years after the East Coast was ravaged in Sharknado 3. Fin, his family and the cosmos have been blissfully sharknado-free in the intervening years, but now sharks--and 'nados--are being whipped up in places and ways that are completely unexpected."

While Tara Reid is set to come back in April, fans of the hit film series will have to wait for the premiere to know if her character will continue to live or die. It can be remembered that the fate of her character was left hanging after the third installment ended with the wreckage falling on her.

Talking about the decision to end "Sharknado" 3 with a cliffhanger, Syfy's senior vice president for program strategy Chris Regina said that they needed to do something "that would keep the audience in jeopardy and want to come back for another 'Sharknado.'"

She said that more than anything, "Sharknado" should be a social interaction with the viewers. This is the reason why they chose the massively popular Star Wars movie as an inspiration for the title of the upcoming installment.

Given its title, fans of the film series should expect some "Star Wars" movie references in "Sharknado 4."

"Sharknado 4" premieres on Syfy on July 31 at 8:00 P.M.
