'Shaft' New Movie News: New Line Cinema to Produce Second Reboot Film
The iconic '70s police drama 'Shaft' has just been announced to receive a second reboot by New Line Cinema, who have recently received the rights to the film.
'Shaft' was first released back in 1971, with the title character portrayed by Richard Roundtree, and then reprised by Samuel L. Jackson in 2000.
"Jackson's NYPD detective John Shaft played the nephew of the original John Shaft, and it's unclear whether New Line's reboot will continue the Shaft lineage or start from scratch. Either way, a new actor will be cast as the African-American protagonist," writes The Wrap.
It hasn't been disclosed as to what actor the studio is eyeing to take on the role as the smooth talking no nonsense detective yet, but the report suspects that one of these talents would be highly considered:
"Anthony Mackie, Jamie Foxx, David Oyelowo, and Chadwick Boseman."
The last movie was fairly successful, and it is believed the movie could do well in premiering in this specific time of racial tension in this country.
The project is still in early development and does not yet have a release date.
