"Shadowhunters" aired its pilot episode on January 12. It provides a promising future compared to the book's movie adaptation "Mortal Instruments: City of Bones." Freeform (formerly called ABC Family) aired the very first episode of the series that is based on Cassandra Clare's young adult fiction book series. 

Book lovers should be able to enjoy this TV series better despite the failure of the 2013 film. The film only scored 12 percent on Rotten Tomatoes. Having only one released episode, the TV series have scored 42 percent on the "Tomatometer."

According to The Bit Bag, the cast and directors of the show are different from those from the movie so viewers should really give this series a chance. The book series has been popular and can almost be compared to the likes of Hunger Games, Maze Runner and Twilight saga.

Dominic Sherwood, the actor who plays Shadowhunter Jace, told TV Line that even though the fans can be easily spoiled by the outcome in the books, they will still be surprised by the season's ending.

"The season ends with something the 'shippers are not going to expect at all. It's not in the books. They're not going to expect what happens to happen," Sherwood said.

The pilot episode featured the 18th birthday of Clary Fray who on that day realized that she is one of the human-angel hybrids called "shadowhunters." She figures out that there's a lot more like her as she encounters fellow-shadowhunters Jace, Alec Lightwood and Isabelle.

"Shadowhunters" airs every Tuesday, 9 p.m. EST only Freeform (ABC Family).
