'Shadowhunters' Cast News: Dominic Sherwood Tapped for Lead Male Role in 'Mortal Instruments' Based Series
The Mortal Instruments spin off television show, Shadowhunters has cast Dominic Sherwood, star of Vampire Academy as the male lead, playing the character, Jace Wayland.
Sherwood will play what has been described as a "narcissistic and lethally gorgeous" demon hunter. He will also serves as the romantic interest of the heroine of the story, Clarissa Clary Fray.
This information was confirmed by an announcement made by ABC Family on Monday. Shadowhunters is based on the bestselling Young Adult urban fantasy book series by Cassandra Clare, The Mortal Instruments.
The show will follow Clary at 18-years-old as she becomes caught up in the world of Shadowhunters, which are human- angel hybrids who hunt down demons. This takes place after Clary's own mother is attacked by a demon.
In order to save and protect her mother, Clary must become involved in the world of faeries, warlocks, vampires and werewolves.
She will also have to reveal family secrets, unlock powers that she did not know she possessed and form a team with the Shadowhunters, which include Jace, who is a skilled soldier and Shadowhunter who is looking to get revenge for the murder of his father.
The show is intended to be a reboot of The Mortal Instruments saga, following the 2013 movie adaptation of the book series, The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones.
The film opened to below average reviews and low box office numbers and has earned $31 million domestically. The planned sequel film, The Mortal Instruments: City of Ashes, has been put on hold.
The decisions as far as the cast playing other main characters in the show, for example Clary and her best friend, Simon, have not been announced as yet, although the show is set to go into production in Toronto, starting in May.
