‘Serial’ Season 2 Podcast Returns, Creator Sarah Koenig Confirms
"Serial" creator Sarah Koenig announced that the podcast has returned with its season 2 on Dec. 10.
According to International Business Times, "Serial" season 2 is set to investigate the case of Bowe Bergdahl, a United States military deserter who left his post in Afghanistan and became seized by the Taliban for five years. It was only after a prisoner swap he was brought back to the United States.
In the "Serial" podcast, Koenig revealed that "Serial" season would be a leap from the first installment, which encompassed a topic that people had become aware of before the podcast. Koenig also said that the story spins out in so many unexpected directions because it was about Bergdahl and about a strange decision he had made, to leave his post.
Koenig also described Bergdahl as an "interesting" and "unusual" guy, unlike other lads the showrunner had met before. Koenig added that season 2 was also about the people that had been impacted by that decision, as well as the choices that they had made.
Unlike the first season, season 2 would also extended far out into the world, as it reached into swaths of the military and there were peace talks to end the war, in addition to the attempts to rescue other hostages. The season is also set to have Bergdahl share his personal experiences and ordeal, according to The New York Times.
For Koenig, Bergdahl had made him explore what it meant to be loyal, to be resilient, to be used, and to be punished.
