'Sense8' Season 2 Christmas Special: Two-Hour Christmas Special Delivers Second Season Premiere Episode

Fans of "Sense8" still have six months to wait for season 2, but the good news is that Netflix is set to release "Sense8: A Christmas Special" this December to spread holiday cheer.

Produced by Lana Wachowski, Grant Hill and J. Michael Straczynski, the two-hour Christmas special will feature the eight mentally linked series leads "finding deeper connections, learning darker, more desperate secrets about one another, and struggling to identify with more than just oneself," as stated by Netflix on its press release.

The upcoming season will pick up where the first season left off, where the Sensates were on the run from Whispers. Based on the trailer for the Christmas special, Wolfgang joins Sun to fight his way out of a jam, Lito deals with a problem involving the public, and Riley and Kala continue to be romantically involved with Wolfgang and Will through their Sensate connection.

Talking about the upcoming special in a video message, Wachowski explained why he wanted to deliver the premiere episode of season 2 six months prior to its release.

"There's something about birthdays and holiday celebrations. We notice things about each other. We see how tall kids have grown. We notice how much our hair's gone gray. Holidays can make you feel so connected in the way that holidays can make you feel so isolated and alone. I wanted to tell a story in this first episode that was kind of about time and presence and how these new lives of these characters made them feel empowered, like they can do anything as long as they're together," he said.

"Sense8" season 2 premieres on May 5, 2017, while the "Sense8: A Christmas Special" airs on Friday, December 23 on Netflix.
