While it was recently publicly believed that pop singer Selena Gomez and EDM artist Zedd were most certainly an item, a statement from artist Diplo sought to refute that. However in an even more recent interview, Selena has gone on record to defend what it was she had with the German born DJ.

In an interview with Radio.com, Diplo had some choice words to say about Zedd's recent album effort, but soon segwayed into his romantic life, stating that he believed it was all just a marketing technique.

"I'm actually not enemies with Zedd by any means," he said. "I just think that he came from such a cool place, and now he's been pegged as a money-maker for a major label to do EDM, which to me isn't even a genre. But they've pegged him for that, they've marketed him, even the fake relationship with Selena Gomez, all the things to sell records took away from the music."

Selena responded to Diplo's allegation on an appearance New Zealand's "The Edge Afternoons" radio show Tuesday. She first expresses her confusion as to why Diplo believed he understood her relationship. Her response also regrettably confirms that the two aren't seeing each other currently anymore.

"He said that was a joke!" Gomez said. "He said that was a joke cause I talked to him. First off, it's very interesting that Diplo would think he knew about my personal life, but he doesn't. I adore Anton [Zedd] a lot and I definitely had a thing with him, which was nice."

This is also one of the first times Selena confirms that she held a "thing" with Zedd. In previous interviews she dances around their relationship.

"He's this cute little German, and he's got really beautiful eyes, and he's very sweet and funny," Gomez told Radio Disney. "I respect his vision because he has a way of knowing how important his role is as an EDM artist, and he doesn't spend most of his time traveling the world DJing."
